Norwich is 29 square miles with a population of over 40,000. We have been eastern Connecticut’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider since 1972. We are a mobile healthcare provider for communities throughout Eastern CT including the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Ambulance transportation is broken down into a few categories, emergency and non-emergency medical transportation. Each of these categories is further broken down into levels of service; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). ALS has sub categories that include Paramedic Intercept and Critical Care Transport. When you dial 911 and call for emergency help, an ambulance comes and picks you up. The level of service arriving is dependent on several determinants that are derived from Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols. Non-emergency medical transportation, as its name suggests, offers medical transportation in non-emergency situations. In most cases, this form of transportation is planned for and booked in advance. On the other hand, the need for an ambulance is almost always unplanned.
