Norwich Free Academy is the designated public high
school for Norwich residents. It is a privately
governed, endowed, regional independent high school
with an excellent reputation. Some of the academic
options available beyond the core curriculum include
business, cooperative work experience, fine arts,
alternative education, advanced placement courses,
technology, and music arts. Sixty-eight co-curricula
activities are offered, in addition to intramural,
interscholastic and club sports.
Quality Healthcare
The William W. Backus Hospital is a 210-bed,
short-term, not-for-profit community hospital. Fully
accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Organizations and licensed by the
State of Connecticut, Backus is the main source of
acute care health services for some 100,000 people
living in Eastern Connecticut. In addition to
medical/surgical, psychiatric, emergency, critical
and coronary care, Backus Hospital provides an array
of services from; community health education,
computerized tomography (CAT) scanning to diagnostic
imaging and echocardiography, just to name a few.

Norwich offers diverse business locations in the
Norwich Business Park, downtown as well as older

Norwich Public Utilities is a municipally owned
full-service utility providing water and power to
