Legislative Affairs/Business & Industry Committee
The Legislative Affairs/Business & Industry
Committee is responsible for monitoring state
legislature matters and reporting to the Chamber’s
Board of Directors and membership body any issues
that may have a potential impact on local
businesses. The Committee also acts as a conduit for
the membership in voicing both local and global
concerns to state legislators and other
representatives.
Since its formation in December of 2004, Committee
successes include:
-
Coordination of a Legislative Breakfast,
where members of the Greater Norwich Area
Chamber of Commerce met local legislators and
participated in a Q&A forum.
-
Initiation of a round table discussion with
Representative Olsen in regard to proposed
changes along Route 82.
-
Hosting a breakfast meeting with United
States Congressman Rob Simmons to discuss the
proposed Groton Sub Base closure.
-
In conjunction with the Connecticut Business
& Industry Association (CBIA), the Legislative
Committee helped defeat numerous anti-business
measures that would have significantly affected
organizations across the state. Through this
cooperative effort, state agencies, legislative
leaders and business owners united to curtail
the negative impact such bills would have on
Connecticut business.
The Legislative Committee meets on the 3rd
Tuesday of every month at 4:30 PM at the Chamber
office located at 112 Main Street in Norwich.
The Committee is continually looking for business
leaders who are interested in facilitating the
continued success and prosperity of local
businesses. Anyone with ideas in stimulating
economic growth for the Greater Norwich Area is
encouraged to contact the Chamber
office to learn more about this dedicated committee. |
